OPP Police Force Fit Enough For Bike Patrol – Will Wingham Police & Chief Follow Suit?

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) –Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers patrolled Fergus and Elora on Canada Day by bicycle. The two officers attended local events in the towns and participated in birthday celebration festivities including a parade and measuring speeds of the Soap Box Derby participants. “Bike patrol provides an opportunity to have more personable contact with members of the community” says Wellington County Detachment Commander Scott Lawson.

They also conducted enforcement of the Highway Traffic Act and the Liquor Licence Act. “Bicycle patrol is another useful tool we have for patrolling our community. It allows the officers to get to places that a car is not able to get to such as parks and trails where we are not expected to be seen” says Lawson.
