(Cavan Monaghan Township, ON) – On Saturday February 1, at approximately 12:20 p.m., members of the Peterborough County OPP, Cavan Monaghan Fire Department ,and Peterborough Ambulance service, were called to investigate a report of a fire at a residence on Mount Pleasant Road.
An officer from Peterborough County OPP arrived first at the scene before other emergency services. At this time he observed the residence to be filled with smoke.
While outside the residence the officer heard a woman calling for help from within the residence.
The officer at this time gained access by breaking a window to the residence then entered the residence where he was able to locate a female who was suffering from smoke inhalation.
The officer removed the victim from the residence and ensured that no other persons were present in the structure.
Once safely outside the residence the victim 44 year old Angela BROTHERSTONE was treated by attending Ambulance Service and transported to Peterborough Regional Health Services for medical care.
The officer, PC Jason FOLZ is a 18 year veteran of the Ontario Provincial Police and is also a volunteer Firefighter. The officer was initially treated for smoke inhalation by medical services then returned to his duties.
