OPP Officer Charged In Cruiser Vs Motorcycle Collision

(BRANT TOWNSHIP, ON) – On June 9, 2018, members of South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Bruce County Paramedic Services responded to a two motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bruce County Road 3 and Bruce County Road 2 in Brant Township. A marked OPP police vehicle and a motorcycle were involved in the collision.

The motorcycle operator and Bruce County OPP officer were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and invoked its mandate.

Following the completion of the SIU investigation, South Bruce OPP concluded their parallel investigation. As a result, Provincial Constable Kenneth ROPPEL was charged on November 13, 2018 with Left Turn-fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision, contrary to Section 141(5) of the Highway Traffic Act.

A court appearance has been scheduled for December 18, 2018.
