(LAKE HURON, ON) The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine unit spent the Victoria Day weekend patrolling the waters of Lake Huron conducting safety equipment checks. A total of 61 vessels were checked between, May 17, 2013 and May 19, 2013, and no equipment deficiencies were found.
The Marine officers are pleased with the early results, but remind boaters to continue complying with safety regulations.
Ensure you have the required safety equipment on board each time you leave the dock. This can make the difference between a rescue and a recovery should you have any problems while you are out on the water.
Marine patrols will continue throughout the summer to deter offences on the water and ensure that boat operators comply with Transport Canada vessel requirements.
