OPP INVESTIGATING FATAL BOAT INCIDENT

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating an incident in which one person has died as a result of a boat capsizing.

On April 19, 2014 at approximately 11:45 a.m., members of the OPP attended a location on Black River Road near Sedowa in the former Dalton Township in response to a capsized canoe. Witnesses were able to pull a 65 year old female from the water of the Black River. She was wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) at the time. The female was transported via ambulance to a local hospital. She was later air lifted to a Durham region area hospital where she remains.

A 65 year old male who was wearing a PFD, was pulled from the water by members of the Ramara Township Fire and Rescue Department and was transported via ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
