(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On November 2, 2012 at approximately 9:15 am (CST) officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call from an employee of the Mid-Town Motel in Fort Frances, ON.
Officers responded within minutes of receiving the call and located one male deceased inside one of the motel rooms. The deceased was identified as Leo WHITECROW, age 45 years of Seine River First Nation. A post mortem examination was conducted in Kenora and police subsequently entered into a homicide investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Peter Loree of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
On November 27, 2013, twenty-six-year-old Peter DEAFY of Seine River First Nation was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused is in police custody and is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances on November 28, 2013.
