(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Saturday, June 14, 2014 at approximately 1:50 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a missing boater.
A 56 year old male from Thunder Bay went boating on the Kaministiquia River in the area of Forbes River Road and Silver Falls Road, during the evening hours and did not return to his camp.
OPP responded with Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and Marine Unit officers and began searching the area on the Kaministiquia River.
Divers from the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) have searched the area of the Kaministiquia River with negative results.
The OPP Marine Unit has continued to conduct marine patrols on the Kaministiquia River with negative results. The water on the Kaministiquia River is currently very high and quite murky making search efforts difficult.
The OPP Helicopter Unit will be arriving in Thunder Bay today and conducting an aerial search over the Kaministiquia River on July 16 and July 17.
The investigation is continuing.
