OPP Cruiser Struck While Investigating Collision

(SEVERN TWP, ON) – Members of the Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently tied up dealing with several motor vehicle collisions on Highway 11 in the northbound lanes in the Township of Severn.

One of the collisions involved a transport truck hitting a ‘crash’ truck on Hwy 11 North. A member of the Orillia OPP attended the scene and was investigating the collision when his cruiser was sideswiped by a northbound transport truck. That vehicle continued on Hwy 11 but was soon located by police farther north. The officer was in the cruiser at the time of the collision. He was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution. There were no injuries from the initial collision the officer was investigating.

There was another collision on Highway 11 by the Bond Rd that is currently being investigated.

Hwy 11 northbound lanes are closed from Agnew Road to Coopers Falls Road however OPP expects the lanes to be open shortly.

There were white out conditions on Hwy 11 at the time.

Given the difficult driving conditions the OPP is urging drivers to proceed with caution on the drive home. Drivers need to slow down, leave space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you, pay attention to driving conditions and adjust your speed.
