OPP CONCLUDE REVIEW FOR TOWN OF AMHERSTBURG POLICE SERVICE

(ORILLIA, ON) – on December 10, 2013, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a request from the Chief of the Amherstburg Police Service to conduct a review into potential criminal wrongdoing that had been uncovered within the municipal office in the Town of Amherstburg.

As a result, members of the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch were assigned and conducted a thorough review of the information regarding some financial processes used within the municipal office of the Town of Amherstburg.

The review determined that there is no evidence to support a criminal investigation.

The OPP has reported the findings to the Chief of the Amherstburg Police Service. The OPP will take no further action on this case.

Under provisions of the Police Services Act, the Police Chief of a service (or Commissioner of the OPP) may ask another police service to conduct an investigation in their jurisdiction to avoid any possible conflict of interest.
