(BRIGHTON, ON) On Wednesday, October 2, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a trespass to property complaint on a local farmer’s field in the Municipality of Brighton shortly after 4:00 pm where off road vehicles (ORV’s) were travelling though the field destroying the soybean crops.
OPP officers investigated the area and damaged crops and eventually set up observation on Ontario Street in Brighton based on information provided by the farmer and other residents in the vicinity who had also seen the ORV’s.
At approximately 5:50 pm, three ORV’s were seen travelling northbound on Ontario Street and parked in a driveway of a residence on Ontario Street. An adult male, adult female and an 11 year old female youth were seen getting off the ORV’s and OPP continued their investigation.
Jordan Paul E. CHAMBERS, 20 from Brighton, Ontario was operating a Honda 300, four wheel ORV and has been served Provincial Offence Notices under Highway Traffic Act – Ontario Regulation 316 with the following offences:
Unlawfully drive Off Road Vehicle on highway
Off Road Vehicle – no number plate
Drive Off Road vehicle – no insurance
Off Road Vehicle – fail to drive in same direction as traffic
Susan A JOHNSON, 44 from Brighton Ontario was operating a 2002 Honda TE-2 and has been served Provincial Offence Notices under the same regulation with the following offence:
Unlawfully drive Off Road Vehicle on highway
Off Road Vehicle – no number plate
Drive Off Road Vehicle – fail to wear proper helmet
Off Road Vehicle – fail to drive in same direction as traffic
The 11 year old female youth was operating a BAJA 90. She was warned regarding not having a driver’s licence and spoken to by OPP.
