OPP ARREST MALE FOR FRAUD CHARGES IN TRENT HILLS

(TRENT HILLS, ON) – Between Sunday, September 21 and Wednesday, September 25, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated three reports of break and enters to businesses and residences in the Municipality of Trent Hills, Ontario where property such as assorted jewellery valued at $200, a Sony 40” television at $819.24 and a Minolta 35 mm camera of unreported value, along with personal cheque books of the victims were stolen.

On Sunday June 2, 2013 Northumberland OPP received a theft of motor vehicle and a vehicle entry report from two residents in Trent Hills. A 1994 red Dodge van was stolen from a 7th Line East address and on County Road 38 a cell phone was taken from the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was recovered abandoned the following day and returned to the owner, however the phone was not recovered.

The suspect in these incidents from September 21-25 then went to a local pawn shop to sell the property and to local banks in Campbellford an attempt to cash cheques to his own personal account. The property was not purchased and the banks became suspicious of the suspect trying to deposit the fraudulent cheques and contacted OPP.

Northumberland OPP and Street Response Team (SRT) members began an investigation into the recent break and enters and cheque frauds and the stolen Dodge from June which resulted in a male being arrested on Tuesday October 8, 2013.

Jonathon Grant CLARKE, 34 of no fixed address has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:

Possession of property obtained by crime – 7 counts

Fraud under $5000 – 4 counts

Utter forged document – 4 counts

Break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence – 2 counts

Theft of a motor vehicle under $5000

Theft under $5000 from a motor vehicle

The accused has been held in custody for a bail hearing on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, Ontario at 1:30 pm
