Officer Runs Red Light And Hits Civilian Vehicle

On November 12, 2016, at 4:45 p.m., a Waterloo Regional Police officer was responding to an emergency call at Fisher-Hallman Road North and Erb Street West. The officer stopped at the red light, had the emergency lights and siren activated and entered the intersection once all visible traffic had stopped. As the officer entered the intersection, so did a motor vehicle travelling with the green light. The police cruiser struck the civilian vehicle. No one was injured. The intersection was closed for 2.5 hours as officers investigated. As a result of the investigation, the officer has been charged with a Highway Traffic Act offence.
