Novice Driver Caught With BAC Over Zero

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) A RIDE check conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) resulted in one driver facing numerous charges.

On September 1, 2013 OPP officers established a RIDE check program on Porter Road at Gray Road, in the former Manvers Township. An officer spoke with the driver of a vehicle after he had entered the RIDE check area and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was a novice driver which means that there must be a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of zero.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Glen GOMEZ-OROZCO, 18 years of age, of Scarborough was charged with the offences of adult novice driver – BAC above zero and failing to surrender driver’s licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have permission to be driving the vehicle and he was subsequently charged with the Criminal Code offence of take motor vehicle without consent.

The accused will appear in court, in Lindsay, on October 24, 2013.
