(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 252 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
July 30
A male who resides on Danforth Road in Hamilton Township reported the Ontario licence plates that were attached to his black Ford pick were stolen sometime during the past week. The vehicle was parked beside the barn on his property.
Police were called when two windows were found to be broken at a public school located on Kent Street in Campbellford, Ontario. The windows appeared to have been broken by a rock.
On July 29, 2018 Pierre Boivin age 59 of Campbellford, Ontario was arrested and charged for uttering threats. He was released with conditions after attending a bail hearing in Cobourg, Ontario. Officer arrested and charged him for breaching those conditions set upon him by the courts the following day July 30, 2018. He was held pending another bail hearing.
July 31
Just after 3:30 a.m. an 82 year old female with dementia was reported missing to police after family members woke up to the front door of their home open and discovered the female not to be in her bed. The woman was located not far from her home in Brighton, Ontario in good health but in a highly confused state. After being medically cleared she was transported back to her residence and reunited with her family.
A fifty dollar counterfeit bill was tendered in exchange for beer at a local area business in Brighton, Ontario. Police attended and retrieved the counterfeit bill. The investigation is continuing.
A 30 year old male from Cobourg, Ontario was charged with stunt driving after an officer measured the vehicle he was driving westbound on Highway 401 in Port Hope, Ontario at 168km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. His licence was suspended and his vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 12, 2018.
A resident who lives on Durham Street in Cramahe Township called police just before midnight after hearing a loud bang outside of the home then noticing damage to the front end of her car that was parked in the driveway. Investigation continuing.
Police arrested and charged 31 year old Christopher Poole from Warkworth, Ontario for assault and uttering threats after he was involved in a physical altercation while at a local area restaurant in the village of Hastings located in the Municipality of Trent Hills. Once being medically cleared he was released by police and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 12, 2018.
August 1
48 year old John Castro of Cambridge, Ontario was charged with stunt driving after the motorcycle he was operating was stopped by an officer after he was measured travelling 166 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone eastbound on Highway 401 near Port Hope, Ontario. His licence was suspended and his motorcycle was towed and impounded for seven days. He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 12, 2018.
Police were called to the area of 4th Line and County Road 8 in the Municipality of Trent Hills for reports of a vehicle fire. Trent Hills Fire Department was on scene and confirmed the fire was not suspicious and was caused by a cell phone remaining plugged in all night. The interior of the vehicle was completely destroyed.
August 2
An officer stopped a black Ford sedan on Grand Road in Campbellford, Ontario for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offence. As a result of the investigation a 24 year old male from Havelock, Ontario was charged with several HTA offences including operating an unsafe vehicle. He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 12, 2018.
An Alnwick-Haldimand Township resident reported to police that someone tried to break into his shop located on County Road 18. The suspects were unable to gain entry but did successfully steal a battery form his boat that was sitting in the driveway.
A 41 year old male from Brighton, Ontario was arrested and charged with several weapon related offences, mischief and resist peace officer after police conducted an investigation into a domestic related incident. The accused was released and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg later this month. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
Northumberland OPP officers investigated 19 accidental 911 /alarm calls, 13 motor vehicle collisions, 38 traffic related complaints and conducted 18 RIDE programs during this time period.
