(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
Mar 16:
– Police intervened in an ongoing domestic dispute in Trent Hills involving unwanted communication. Officers counselled both persons. No charges resulted.
– Officers spoke to a separated Cramahe Twp couple arguing over who gets visitation with their dog
– A Campbellford resident reported receiving a cheque for $2,500 which she was to deposit in her account and send a portion to a moving company from Quebec. Fraud report taken, no money was lost.
– Officers attended a Brighton home where a separated couple were arguing about child custody issues. No charges resulted.
– Private investigator in an apartment parking lot threatened by a man with a baseball bat. Investigation ongoing.
– Black Acura clocked at 170 km/h on Hwy 401 Port Hope area. The 22 yr old Brampton man was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed, lost his licence and car for 7 days. (7pm)
– Officers attended a Campbellford home for a domestic dispute. The couple were found to be arguing over one of their mothers ‘meddling’ in their affairs. The man spent the night elsewhere. No charges resulted.
– A second call from the couple arguing over their dog
Mar 17:
– Witness reported seeing a white GMC pickup truck steal a black utility trailer (trailer Lic #C4694Z) from a nearby property on Marydale Park Rd., Port Hope (5:13am). Truck last seen westbound into Durham Region. Investigation ongoing.
– Residential alarm at a Lakeport home. Officers found the front door open, ‘cleared’ the house and determined the homeowner didn’t close the door fully, strong winds did the rest (12:30pm)
– A 41 yr old Cramahe Twp driver was notified of her driver’s licence suspension when she was stopped by an officer at the Colborne exit of Hwy 401(2:30pm)
– A truck with three male occupants was stopped on Cty Rd 45 Baltimore area (4:20pm) for an equipment issue. The officer detected an odour of marijuana; all three occupants from the Cobourg area were eventually arrested. The 40 yr old driver was found be in possession of a switch blade and marijuana (under 30g). He was charged with the drug offence and possession of a prohibited weapon. A 19 yr old passenger was also charged with possession of marijuana (under 30g). The third occupant, a 17 yr old youth was found to be in possession of marijuana (over 30g), a scale, numerous zip lock baggies and a prescription drug (not his). He was charged with possession of the marijuana, possession of a Schedule 1 substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking and failing to comply with a youth probation order. Names withheld.
– As a result of information provided by CAS, a missing 17 yr old youth from Peel Region was located at a Warkworth area home.
– Officers conducting a RIDE program County Rd 30 Campbellford (11:30pm) observed a pickup truck stop and turn around apparently avoiding police. The truck was stopped and the driver was found to be sober however he admitted to not having insurance or proper plates on the truck. He was charged accordingly and the truck was towed from the scene.
Mar 18:
– Several officers from Northumberland detachment assisted Napanee OPP detachment with Hwy 401 eastbound road closure due to multi vehicle collision (12:08am). This assistance continued throughout the entire day and into the night.
– Officers stood by at a Hamilton Twp home while one partner collected belongings to move out (10am)
– A wanted 32 yr old Trent Hills man turned himself in at the Campbellford detachment. The outstanding warrants were for failing to attend court for disqualified driving charges. He was held for a bail hearing
– A 57 yr old man from Mariposa Twp was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s licence on Percy St Warkworth (11:30am)
– A 29 yr old man from Stittsville was charged with driving with a suspended driver’s licence on Church St Warkworth (2:30pm)
– A worker at the Warkworth Institution ‘pocket dialed’ 911, no emergency
– Police mediated a landlord/tenant issue in Colborne (no heat). Complaints of this nature should be made to the Landlord & Tenant Board 1-888-332-3234
– A Brighton mother reported her 15 daughter refusing to come home. Officers located the youth walking in town and returned her home (10pm)
Mar 19:
– Officers continued to assist motorists exiting Hwy 401Brighton
– Two 911 calls inquiring if Hwy 401 had been re-opened. Both callers spoken to re: misuse of 911. For road information on provincially maintained highways call 511
– Officers stood by at a Hamilton Twp home while a separated spouse collected belongings (6:30am)
– Homeowner in Cramahe Twp complained that Hydro crew dumped snow on his lawn. Caller advised to call Hydro One, not a police matter
– Police responded to reports of people screaming in a Hamilton Twp home. Officers determined that there had been an argument between a couple over the use of the car to go shopping. The 24 yr old woman was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000 after damaging the inside of the home. (11am)
– Family dispute at a Hamilton Twp home between grandparents and grandchild causing the grandmother to collapse. Family members fearing the worse, called 911. EMS and police attended. The grandmother was found to be ok. Officers counselled the family about conflict resolution.
– Three calls to a Campbellford grocery store regarding arrested shoplifters
– A 37 yr old man reported that he hasn’t spoken to his mother in 8 months and requested police contact her to ensure she is ok. Officers located her in good health and were advised that she didn’t want to have any contact with her son.
– A daughter called police from Guelph concerned that her mother would self-harm after having an argument with her on the phone. Officers attended the Hamilton Twp home and found the mother not to be suicidal. Both mother and daughter were advised to work on their relationship as that seemed to be the reason for calling police, not a threat of suicide.
– Officers apprehended a 20 yr old Trent Hills male on a Form 2 (Order for Examination, Mental Health Act) and delivered him to a nearby hospital for treatment
– Colborne area parents called police for their 17 yr old son attempting to break windows/doors with his bare hands. Officers located him outside the home, apprehended him under the Mental Health Act and took him to an area hospital for a mental health assessment (4pm)
– Report of a possibly suicidal female straddling the railing on the Cranberry Rd overpass of Hwy 401. Extensive patrols made by OPP and Port Hope officers, unable to locate the woman.(5:20pm)
– Police attended a Colborne apt. building for a noise complaint after unsuccessful attempts were made by a neighbour to have the music turned down. Officers were successful in getting the music turned down to a more reasonable level
– Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed (158 km/h) charge eastbound Hwy 401 in Brighton (11:50pm). The 21 yr old female driver from St Catherines was also found to be driving without a licence. She was charged accordingly.
Mar 20: (to noon)
– Car vs deer collision on Hwy 401 Port Hope (12:45am). The 2015 Mazda had to be towed from the scene. No injuries to the driver. The deer had to be put down by police to prevent any further suffering.
– Damage to light pole at the Burnham St commuter lot reported. Investigation ongoing. (3:30am)
– A northbound car was observed by officers to be driving aggressively on Cty Rd 45 near Beagle Club Rd (12noon). The 32 yr old male driver from Hastings was found to have a suspended licence and was charged accordingly.
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted 5 RIDE programs, investigated 14 motor vehicle collisions, 34 traffic related complaints and 4 criminal incidents at the Warkworth Institution.
