(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls last week, here are some examples:
July 20:
– A six year old child playing with the phone dialed 911 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp causing officers to respond
– Colborne resident reported a male calling her claiming she owed $2,000 in ‘back taxes’ and if not paid, she would be arrested. She knew this to be a scam, hung up on the caller and contacted police
– A white Ford Fusion with Quebec licence plates drove off from the Port Hope ONroute Canadian Tire Gas Bar without paying for $56 worth of gas at 12:14pm. The male suspect was wearing a yellow T-shirt
– A 45 year old driver from New York was found to be operating a radar detector on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area. She was charged with that offence and not having her child properly secured in a seatbelt
– A two year old child playing with the phone dialed 911 in Trent Hills causing officers to respond
– A Campbellford resident reported being harassed on Facebook. Advice given, no charges resulted
July 21:
– A recently separated Hamilton Twp resident contacted police for advice relating to her ex-husband picking up items at the house. She was told that police could be contacted to stand by and keep the peace for everyone’s benefit when this took place
– Child custody dispute in Colborne, the caller was advised to obtain a custody order from Family Court to avoid any further disagreements with her ex-partner
– Neighbour dispute in Hamilton Twp involving the revving of engines and loud music. Advice given
– Officers investigated a domestic disturbance at a seasonal resort in Trent Hills. Both parties were separated for the night. Alcohol was a contributing factor and no charges resulted
July 22:
– An officer stopped a car on Ranney St Campbellford for a traffic offence. Two occupants were subsequently arrested for possession of marihuana. Both rear passengers, a 21 yr old man and a youth were charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance, marihuana under 30g and released with a court date
– Police investigated a domestic situation at a Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home which resulted in one partner being charged with uttering death threats. The woman was released with an impending court date.
– A Brighton resident contacted police to complain about a construction crew not using appropriate barriers while digging up the road. When officers arrived, additional signage was in place.
– Police responded to a Colborne residence for a domestic disturbance. The couple’s argument was exasperated by one partner suffering from drug withdrawal symptoms. One partner agreed to leave for the night. While outside waiting for a ride, the other partner left the residence and began another argument which resulted in officers re-attending. No charges resulted in either incident and the couple were eventually separated for the night.
July 23:
– Police attended a Hastings residence for a report of a suicidal person shortly after midnight. Officers determined that a daughter was upset over her parents discussing divorce. The family was provided contact information for counselling.
– Police attended a Campbellford residence for a report of a person threatening self-harm at 4:56am. Officers assisted EMS in transporting her to hospital for treatment for her mental health issues.
– Report of a domestic dispute at a Port Hope residence at 6:30am. Officers provided the couple with contact information for counselling and addiction issues. No charges resulted
– An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp man called police to report that his brother assaulted him. Officers determined that there was insufficient evidence to lay a charge.
– 911 ‘pocket dialed’ while cutting grass at Hamilton Twp home
– Ambulance and police were dispatched to a Cramahe Twp home for a suicidal person who had overdosed on pills at 10:55pm. The female was transported to hospital for treatment with her medical and mental health issues.
