Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:

Oct 19:

– An excavating company reported damages to a 450H John Deere dozer while it was parked at White Road and Corkery Road in Hamilton Twp. The suspects stole diesel fuel, oil and gas caps. Investigation ongoing

– Police responded to a landlord tenant dispute in Port Hope and discovered several marihuana plants in a basement as well as a carelessly stored firearm. Both parties were charged with Production of a Schedule II substance; marihuana and the tenant faces a separate charge relating to the firearm. Names withheld.

– Police assisted paramedics at a Brighton home to ensure the safety of EMS personnel

– Police settled a family dispute at an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home where the argument centered on what was being served for dinner. No charges resulted.

Oct 20:

– A 24 yr old Loyalist Twp driver was charged with Stunt Driving – excessive speed after he was measured traveling 157km/h on Hwy 401Colborne area in a 2014 Dodge. He was also issued a 3 day licence suspension for registering between 50-80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood (warn range) in addition to a 7 day licence suspension and vehicle impoundment. All four occupants had to make alternate arrangements for transportation as the vehicle was towed from the highway.

– A Colborne business owner dialed 911 in error when trying to call his wife. The man was difficult with communicators when he was contacted to verify his wellbeing. Officers spoke to the man and explained the reasons for follow up being required. (personal safety)

– Kennedy Rd in Hamilton Twp was closed to traffic for one and a half hours due to downed hydro lines (weather related)

– A solar farm in Port Hope reported trespassers. Officers determined that the individuals were employees.

Oct 21:

– Police were called to a Trent Hills home to assist an elderly dementia sufferer who was experiencing some difficulties. Referrals were made to the Alzheimer Society upon consent of the family.

– Police stood by and kept the peace while a tenant turned in his house keys to his landlord in Hamilton Twp

– Police received a complaint of suspicious persons in a Campbellford business. Officers found a fitness instructor conducting a class

– Tire debris reported on Hwy 401eastbound near the Grafton exit. Officers attended and removed the debris.

Oct 22:

– A large John Deere Jeep for children was reported stolen from a property on Harwood Rd in Hamilton Twp. The toy is described as green-yellow 2013 Peg-Perego Gator XUV550 motorized Jeep, model # IGOD0063, Serial # FIUS1101G157 valued at approx. $500.

– A visitor to the Hastings area reported that he had lost his wallet. The wallet was turned in to police the next day with all items intact and given back to owner

– Police responded to a disturbance at a Hastings home where two men were fighting. As result of the investigation, a 63 yr old man was charged with Assault with a Weapon (metal pipe). He was released with an impending court date. Names withheld.

– EMS requested police attend an address in Brighton where they had just transported a patient from and ensure that the residence doors were locked. Officers confirmed that the home was secure.

Northumberland OPP also investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions and 35 traffic related complaints.
