(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Officers from the Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
Dec 4:
Report of a trailer on a property north of Warkworth broken in to over the past week. Stolen items include 12 gauge break action shotgun with a wood stock and an Excalibur Axiom Crossbow green cammo colour with scope.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Port Hope residence which resulted in the male partner being charged with Spousal Assault and Utter Threats.
A 20 yr old Cobourg man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place when he stepped out into traffic on Division St and was almost hit. He was held at the Cobourg detachment until sober.
Dec 5:
Police responded to a collision reported on the Hwy 401 westbound off ramp at County Rd 30 in Brighton. Officers observed a silver Nissan in the ditch and identified the driver who was stumbling around the scene. It was determined that he had been drinking and was arrested. He was taken to the Brighton detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Kaden TOZAK age 22 of Cramahe Twp is charged with Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs or alcohol, Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on January 5, 2016
Report of a man cutting wood in a Brighton parking lot at 2:53am. Officers cautioned him regarding the noise advised him to stop for the night
A black Honda was measured to be travelling 126km/h in a 60 km/h zone on County Rd 45 north of Hwy 401. The 23 yr old Cobourg driver was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. His licence was suspended for 7 days and the car was impounded for the same period of time
Dec 6:
Police and EMS attended a Cramahe Twp residence where a youth had intentionally overdosed on medications. She was taken to a hospital to receive treatment for her mental health issues and physical well-being.
A further call related to the youth was received when she fled the hospital prior to receiving treatment. Staff and officers located her in another area of the hospital and she was returned to the appropriate area of care
Advice was given to a Brighton couple who were experiencing relationship issues. Both were advised to seek out a lawyer.
Dec 7:
Police attended a Brighton home and assisted a family experiencing difficulty with their son. All was calm when officers arrived and no charges resulted.
Police investigated a report of a suicidal youth which resulted in that individual being charged with Utter Threats related to previous intimate partner
Report of a vicious dog on neighbouring property in Percy Twp. The caller was referred to the Animal Control officer and Municipality after it was determined that the dog was in a kennel and not running loose
Dec 8:
A suspicious person call in Alderville First Nations led to a man being apprehended for his own protection as he was experiencing a mental health crisis. He was taken to a hospital to receive treatment.
A male was arrested for assaulting and threatening family members at a Cramahe Twp home. He was held for a bail hearing.
Police and EMS were called to Cramahe Twp home where a woman had intentionally overdosed on medications. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
Dec 9:
Police attended a Cramahe Twp home where a mother was arguing with her teenaged daughter. Officers provided some guidance and advice
Police attended a Brighton home where a mother reported her adult son punching holes in walls. Officers provided some guidance and a referral to an outside agency for help
Police attended a Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home where a father wished his adult son removed from the house. The son left without incident when officers arrived.
Dec 10:
Officers conducting a RIDE program on County Rd 2 in Port Hope stopped a black Hyundai Tuscon and determined the driver had been drinking. He failed a roadside test, was arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, William HOWARD age 21 of Port Hope is charged with Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood and being a young driver – with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) over zero. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on December 30, 2015.
Break in reported to a home on County Rd 24 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp sometime between 8am-1245pm. Items taken include jewellery, a quantity of U.S. currency, an LG 43” flat screen TV, a STIHL chainsaw and a STIHL trimmer. Investigation ongoing
A 2011 BMW was measured to be travelling 189 km/h on Hwy 401 in Cramahe Twp shortly after midnight. The 19 yr old driver from North York was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. His licence was suspended for 7 days and the car was impounded for the same period of time
Northumberland OPP also conducted 37 RIDE programs, investigated 17 motor vehicle collisions, 45 traffic related complaints and eleven accidental 911 calls.
