(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 270 incidents over this four day period, here are some examples:
Aug 29:
A Port Hope trailer sales business reported the theft of several tires from its lot on County Rd 28 over the past weekend. Investigation ongoing.
Stephen SCHOENMAKER age 32 of Campbellford, Ontario was arrested and charged with a break-in to a Campbellford storage unit that occurred on Aug. 23, 2016. He also faces two charges of Possession of property obtained by crime and was held for a bail hearing.
A Brighton resident reported seeing his neighbour’s dog (Terrier) being dragged off by a coyote on Huron Dr.
A collision between two personal watercraft on Lake Seymour resulted in minor injuries to one operator. Both vessels were being operated about 150m from shore when the lead vessel veered left causing the second operator to run over top of him. The lead operator was transported to hospital by EMS and subsequently released with minor injuries. The second operator, a 19 yr old Markham, Ontario man was charged with operating vessel in a careless manner, as well as operating a pleasure craft without prescribed competency.
Aug 30:
Police responded to a domestic disturbance in Campbellford resulting in one partner being arrested for breaching conditions of a prior release prohibiting him from associating with the other partner. He was held for a bail hearing.
Officers attended an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home to notify next of kin of the death of a family member.
A domestic dispute a 3:00am in Colborne resulted in one partner spending the night elsewhere. Alcohol was involved and no charges resulted.
Aug 31:
Report of a purse being stolen from a car at the Port Hope Onroute service centre at 8:00am. The owner advised police that when she unlocked her car to enter it, a nearby suspect pulled open the passenger door and grabbed her purse. He fled in a red Ford Windstar van and was described as wearing a black sweater hoodie and a baseball cap. Officers were unable to locate the van and the investigation is ongoing.
Officers located a grey Honda in a ditch near Bewdley. After investigation the owner, a 22 yr old local man, was charged with Careless Driving, Fail to Report an accident and Failing to remain at the scene of an accident. The car was estimated to have sustained approx. $2,000 in damages.
Report of tire debris on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area. An officer attended and removed it from the highway.
Sep 1:
A church on Prince Edward St in Brighton reported the theft of clothing donations left outside by a donor sometime overnight
Police were called to a Brighton home for a domestic dispute where a couple were in the process of separating. As a result of the ensuing investigation, one partner was arrested and charged with spousal assault. Names withheld
Police responded to a Colborne home for a domestic dispute involving child custody issues. Advice was given and no charges resulted.
**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 15 accidental 911 calls, 15 motor vehicle collisions and 59 traffic related complaints during this time period.
