Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

Apr 14:

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Trent Hills home at 1:00 a.m. One partner was arrested for breaching the peace and was held at the Campbellford Detachment until sober.

A resident on First St in Campbellford reported that unknown person(s) broke the rear window of her BMW with a metal bar at 5:30 a.m. this morning. Investigation ongoing.

Police attended an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home to check on the wellbeing of a senior that was reportedly thinking of self-harm. Officers located the uninjured resident and transported him to a nearby hospital for an assessment.

Apr 15:

Police were called to a ‘bush party’ on Pogue Rd in Cramahe Twp at 1:00 a.m. Officers dispersed approximately 15 youths and sent them on their way.

Police responded to a family dispute at a Hamilton Twp home where a disruptive grandson broke a window after an argument about missing work. Officers assisted by finding alternative living accommodations for the youth as he was no longer welcome at the home. No charges resulted at the request of family members.

Police responded to a report of a blue Ford pickup truck in the ditch on County Rd 22 east of County Rd 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp at 3:43 p.m. Officers attended and located the uninjured driver who showed signs of impairment. He was arrested and taken to the Cobourg Detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Andrew Brian TISDALE age 29 of Colborne, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 3, 2017.

Apr 16:

Police received a report of several persons fighting at a bush party near Oak Hill Rd in Port Hope at 2:53 a.m. The crowd was dispersing when officers arrived. No complaints of assault were made to police at the time. Later that day police did receive an assault complaint resulting in an 18 yr old Cobourg, Ontario man being arrest and charged with Assault with a Weapon and breaching several youth court orders. He was held for a bail hearing scheduled on April 17, 2017. Name withheld.

At 4:25 a.m. police responded to report of a possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Main St in Brighton in a black car later determined to be a Chrysler Sebring. The car was located stopped at the intersection of Main St and Prince Edward St in the oncoming lane. The driver appeared to be ‘passed out’ with the engine still running and ‘in gear’. Officers determined that the driver, who was alone, shows signs of impairment and placed him under arrest. He was taken to the Brighton Detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Darcy Duane KNOX age 34 of Picton, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on May 2, 2017.

Police responded to a dispute at a Hamilton Twp home resulting in one family member being arrested and charged with Mischief Under $5,000 and Spousal Assault. He was released with an impending court date in June 2017. Name withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Apr 17:

Police received a report of a break-in that occurred sometime over the weekend at a farmhouse under renovation on County Rd 25 near Morganston Rd in Cramahe Twp. The culprit(s) stole various hand tools and materials including three Air King Exhaust fans. Investigation ongoing.

A Port Hope resident reported two suspicious persons along County Rd 10 in the Garden Hill area. Officers located a man and a woman wearing orange reflective vests picking up garbage along the roadway and ditches. No further police action was required.

A visitor to a Centre St Campbellford home reported finding roofing nails in one of her tires causing it to deflate. Investigation ongoing.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated seven accidental 9-1-1 calls, six motor vehicle collisions, 59 traffic related complaints and conducted 25 RIDE programs over the weekend.
