Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of incidents this past week, here are some examples:

Jan 23:

Police responded to a complaint of a break and enter to a Campbellford area apartment and a subsequent theft from a shed on the property. As a result of the ensuing investigation the following two men were arrested and charged:

Ian Dale Wilfred HOLBROOK age 44 of Seymour Twp, Ontario is charged with Break & Enter (two counts) and Theft Over $5,000

James Dwayne ROGERS age 38 of NORWOOD, Ontario is charged with Break & Enter, Theft Over $5,000 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on March 7, 2017.

An officer observed the driver of a silver Acura not wearing his seatbelt in downtown Campbellford. After stopping the car, the driver was found to be disqualified from driving. The 37 yr old Campbellford man was arrested and is charged with Driving While Disqualified – court order, Fail to Properly Wear a Seatbelt and two other Highway Traffic Act offences. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on March 7, 2017.

A real estate agent reported the theft of two ‘for sale’ signs from the front lawn of a Dale Rd property in Hamilton Twp.

Jan 24:

An adult son called police to attend his parent’s Cramahe Twp home to keep the peace as he picked up belongings after being asked to leave last week. Officers made arrangements for a future visit more suitable to everyone involved.

A Hamilton Twp resident contacted police about a neighbours’ dog barking while outside all day. Officers found the dog to be well looked after and referred the caller to the township bylaw office.

A resident on County Rd 2 in Grafton returned home and noticed fresh footprints in the snow leading to a ground level window. Officers patrolled the area and did not locate any suspicious persons. No break-in had occurred and nothing was damaged.

Jan 25:

Police investigated a neighbour dispute at a Colborne apartment building resulting in one tenant being charged with Uttering Threats. He was released with an impending court date. Name withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Police received two separate complaints of domestic disputes, one in Warkworth and the other in the Roseneath area. Both incidents resulted in no charges and advice being provided.

A Brighton area youth was taken to the hospital by police for treatment after making threats of self-harm.

Jan 26:

A 26 yr old Brampton man turned himself into police at the Cobourg detachment for an outstanding warrant relating to a theft that occurred on Nov. 14, 2016 at a business on Grand Rd in Campbellford. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on Feb. 8, 2017.

Police responded to a Campbellford home where an occupant was threatening self-harm. Officers apprehended him for his own safety and took him to a hospital for treatment to his self-inflicted injuries and mental health illness.

An officer was conducting radar enforcement at 8:30pm on Hwy 401 westbound in the Port Hope area when he measured a white Nissan Altima travelling 170 km/h. The car was stopped and the driver, a 26 yr old Etobicoke Ontario man, was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. The car was impounded for a seven day period and his driver’s licence was suspended for the same period of time.

**Northumberland OPP officers investigated four accidental 911 calls, 17 motor vehicle collisions, 28 traffic related complaints and conducted four RIDE programs during this time period.
