Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 114 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

Oct 14: (from noon)

Paramedics requested police assistance at a Port Hope residence with an uncooperative patient. Officers were advised to disregard prior to arrival as things had calmed down.

A Cramahe Twp resident called 911 to inquire about making anonymous complaints. She was spoken to about misuse of the emergency system and given the phone number for Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

An officer patrolling Oak Ridges Rd in Hamilton Twp at 9:45pm observed smoke from a fire along an unmaintained road near Lander Rd. The officer investigated the source of the fire on foot and observed several youths fleeing on ATVs and in trucks. The youths were not located and the small fire was extinguished by police.

Oct 15:

Report of a car being entered on Singleton St in Brighton sometime overnight, electronics taken

a Brighton resident on Lambton St reported an ebike lying in his driveway. Officers determined that it had been stolen sometime overnight from a Queen St West address. The bike was returned to the owner. Investigation ongoing.

The owner of an abandoned home on Hawkins Rd Port Hope reported a break-in sometime between 2:00pm yesterday and today. The culprit(s) broke several windows and knocked down furniture causing extensive damages. Investigation ongoing.

A Kawasaki KL6 2004 motorcycle reported stolen from the Ottawa area in 2014 was recovered by police on vacant land on Concession 11 Rd West in Trent Hills.

Oct 16:

A tractor trailer travelling eastbound on Hwy 401at 1:37am ran off the road in the construction zone between exit 472 (Burnham St) and exit 474 (County Rd 45) landing on its side in a ditch. The truck was carrying 25,000 lbs of Halloween candy destined for a business in Cornwall, Ontario. The driver, a 22 yr old Toronto area man, received minor injuries and was charged with Careless Driving. The clean-up and removal of the truck from the highway took several hours.

Report of a break-in to a home on Leach Rd in Hamilton Twp sometime through the day. The suspect(s) gained entry to the home by finding a hidden key near the front door. Nothing appeared disturbed or taken. Investigation ongoing.

Two separate incidents in Brighton involving persons threatening self-harm. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Northumberland OPP officers investigated five accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, 28 traffic related complaints and conducted two RIDE programs over the weekend.
