(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 165 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
July 8:
A Brighton resident on Sanford St reported his car ‘keyed’ overnight
An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp farmer on Inglis Rd reported damages to her barn and that her horses had been put back in the barn without her knowledge
A neighbour dispute resulted in a 65 yr old Hamilton Twp man being arrested and charged with Assault and Uttering Threats. He was released with an impending court date
At 9:14pm an officer observed a blue Pontiac G5 travelling at a high rate of speed (140km/h in a posted 80km/h zone) on County Rd 45 near County Rd 22 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. The vehicle was stopped, the driver was found to have been drinking and a subsequent roadside test resulted in a ‘fail’. He was arrested and taken to the Port Hope Police station for further tests. As a result of these tests Jason Jordan BISSONNETTE age 20 of Cobourg, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle, Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed and two counts of Breach of Probation. He was held for a bail hearing July 9, 2016.
July 9:
An elderly dementia sufferer at a Trent Hills nursing home dialed 911 to report his wallet stolen. When staff became aware of the call to police, they located the wallet in his room.
A Hamilton Twp resident dialed 911 when an argument started over a family member being late for dinner and not calling. Officers counselled both of them and no charges resulted.
Police received two calls to an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home where highly intoxicated family members were arguing. This resulted in the father being arrested for breaching the peace and an adult son being arrested and charged with Breach of Probation. The father was held until sober and his son was held for a bail hearing.
July 10:
Report of two men fighting outside of the Campbellford-Seymour Arena at 12:18am. Officers determined it was a consensual fight between two partygoers at ‘Jack & Jill’ function within the complex. No charges resulted.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Brighton home at 3:10am. One family member was arrested for breaching the peace and held until sober. No charges resulted.
Report of a car’s rear window being smashed out sometime overnight on County Rd 2 Port Hope
A confused Percy Twp senior dialed 911 to change a medical care appointment. Officers went to the home and ensured there was no emergency.
At 7:06pm an officer was traveling on Hwy 401in the Theatre Rd area of Hamilton Twp when a westbound white Sierra pickup truck abruptly passed him at a high rate of speed causing his cruiser to shake due to the wind draft. The officer caught up to the vehicle which was at one point was traveling in excess of 160 km/h. The truck was observed to cut off several other motorists as it frequently changed lanes causing several to brake abruptly. The truck was eventually stopped and the driver was found to have been drinking. She was arrested and taken to the Port Hope Police station for further tests. As a result of these tests and the observations of erratic driving made by the officer, Alyson Dawn REININGER age 25 of Whitby, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle, Care & Control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood and Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on July 27, 2016.

Northumberland OPP investigated 10 accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, 32 traffic related complaints and conducted five RIDE programs over this weekend.
