Motorcyclist Caught Doing 170 On 401

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON.) – On May 8, 2015 at approximately 10:24 a.m. Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two (2) motorcycles travelling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic on Highway 401 westbound in Blandford-Blenheim Township.

Police observed the motorcycles to be travelling at an approximate speed of 170km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone, near Plank Line on Highway 401 westbound and were able to conduct a traffic stop with one (1) of the motorcycles. Based on the observations and investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, the male driver, 27 year old Nicholas PATERSON of London was charged with the following:

Race a motor vehicle ~ Highway Traffic Act

The drivers licence was suspended for 7 days and the vehicle has been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers to react to change, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injury or death will occur.

OPP would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
