MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS

(COLLINGWOOD AND THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several motor vehicle collisions in our detachment area over the weekend.

One of those took place on the 15th of March 2014 shortly after 7:00pm at the intersection of Hurontario Street and First Street in Collingwood. It was found that an east bound Honda Fit veered into oncoming lanes on First Street colliding with two oncoming cars. Police investigation revealed that the driver of the Honda Fit had a medical issue while operating her vehicle.

All drivers were taken to an area hospital however the driver of the Honda Fit was later airlifted to a Toronto area hospital in relation to the original medical condition. The two other drivers suffered non life threatening injuries.

Earlier on that same day at approximately 1:30pm, OPP, paramedics and firefighters were dispatched to attend to a two vehicle collision on Grey Road 19 between Mountain Road and Sixth Street. Investigation found that a south bound vehicle lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle on Grey Road 19. One person had to be extricated from a vehicle and numerous persons were taken to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

In total police responded to 19 collisions over the weekend, the majority taking place on Saturday. Motorists are reminded to adjust their driving behaviour to account for sudden extreme weather conditions and slippery roads.
