Guelph Police Traffic Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding a fatal motor vehicle collision early Sunday afternoon. On Sunday November 4, 2012 at 1:50 p.m., emergency services were notified of a single motor vehicle collision on Victoria Road South – at the train bridge that runs between Grange Road and Elizabeth Street.
A 2007 Honda Accord had struck a bridge abutment and subsequently came to rest against an iron fence on the west side of Victoria Road. The force of the collision demolished the Honda and severed a section of an iron fence from the footings. The sole occupant of the Honda – a 47-year-old Guelph man was declared deceased at the scene. There were no other vehicles or parties involved in this collision. Investigators are appealing to the public’s assistance in order to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the events leading up to this collision. The name of the deceased has not been released pending the notification of next of kin. Victoria Road remained closed for nearly eight hours as collision reconstruction officers collected evidence from the scene.
