The Chatham Kent Police responded to 2 separate motor vehicle collisions where vehicles struck a deer. One collision occurred on Clachan Road and the other near Goodbrand Line in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. In both instances the deer was able to run off but the involved vehicles sustained significant damage. The involved drivers were not injured as a result of the accidents.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all drivers that November is the peak month when the risk of collision is the highest with wildlife. Collisions with wild animals can result in serious vehicle damage, personal injury or even death. Reduce your collision risk by slowing down and taking extra precautions while driving, especially during dusk or dawn when most wildlife collisions occur as visibility is greatly reduced. Swerving to avoid hitting a wild animal may result in a more serious collision. If hitting a wild animal is unavoidable, remember to try and stay in control.
