(TEHKUMMAH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Friday June 26, 2015 at 1100 am The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Manitoulin Detachment was notified of a missing boater on Lake Huron on the south shore of Manitoulin Island. The OPP Marine Unit arrived on scene and an unattended small vessel was located anchored off shore belonging to a 74 year old visitor from West Virginia.
Members of the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police Detachment, with the assistance of the OPP Marine Unit, Joint Rescue Cordination Centre (JRCC) and the OPP helicopter started an investigation and a search of the water and shoreline. The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Team was then dispatched to attend and assist with the search.
On Saturday June 27, 2015 at 3:00 pm a body was recovered by the OPP Underwater Search and Rescue from Michael’s Bay on the South Shore of Manitoulin Island.
The person has been identified as George Robert BRAMMER age 74 of Huntington, West Virginia, USA. It was also determined that he was not wearing a life jacket.
A post mortem examination will be conducted on Monday June 29, 2015 in Sudbury Ontario to determine the exact cause of death.
