Missing 20 Year Old Swimmer Found Deceased

(PELEE ISLAND, ON) – The body of a male swimmer, missing since August 20, 2016 at approximately 1:50 p.m. from the southern-most tip of Pelee Island, Ontario has been located near shore.

Members from the Pelee Island Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Essex County OPP Marine Unit, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) and the Canadian and United States Coast Guard suspended their search last evening due to unsafe weather conditions.

As the search was resuming on August 21, 2016 at approximately 9:30 a.m., the deceased was located near shore by a civilian.

The deceased has been identified as Jered GRIEB, age 20 from Chardon, OHIO

SEARCH FOR OVERDUE SWIMMER NEAR PELEE ISLAND

(PELEE ISLAND, ON) – Members from the Pelee Island Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Essex County OPP Marine Unit, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) and the Canadian and United States Coast Guard, are currently searching for an overdue swimmer off the southern tip of Pelee Island, near Fish Point, Lake Erie, Ontario.

At approximately 1:50 p.m. on August 20, 2016, four young men reportedly went swimming together near Fish Point when one male struggled and did not return to shore with the others.

The United States Coast Guard helicopter and the OPP Helicopter will also be participating in the search effort.
