MAXIM – Dangerous Driver X3, Hit and Run

(PENETANGUISHENE, ON) – On Tuesday May 3, 2016 at 10:45 a.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fail to remain motor vehicle collision in Tay Township. A brown Chrysler minivan had struck a blue Suzuki Swift on Highway 93 in Wyebridge. The minivan then left the scene and continued northbound on Highway 93.

The minivan was reported to be driving erratically at high speeds while forcing other vehicles off the roadway. The minivan continued into the Town of Penetanguishene where it struck a Mercury taxi at main Street and Thompson Road. Again, this vehicle did not stop following the collision.

Further information was received that the same minivan nearly missed a male walking on the North Service Road near Waypoint Mental Health Centre. At 10:51 a.m. the male driver was arrested by police for dangerous driving.

The male driver identified as Douglas MAXIM (age 52) of Springwater Township has been charged with:

Three counts of Dangerous Driving contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Fail To Remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused has been held for a bail hearing on May 4, 2016 in Barrie, ON.
