Matthew OUDERKIRK – Identity Theft, Identity Fraud, etc

(TILLSONBURG, ON.) – On April 7, 2015 shortly after 10:00 a.m., members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the Bank of Montreal on Broadway Street in Tillsonburg to a report of a possible fraud in progress.

OPP attended and discovered that a male had entered the bank prior to police being called and attempted to obtain a debit card for an account he previously had opened at the branch. The bank teller alerted her manager when she suspected the male was trying to de-fraud the bank and the identification he produced was suspicious.

Through investigation with the assistance of the Oxford OPP Crime Unit, it was discovered that the Tillsonburg Bank of Montreal, Scotia Bank and C.I.B.C. were all victims of fraud which occurred between March 25, 2015 and April 7, 2015. Other locations and branches also included Kitchener and Aylmer. A loss of over $1,700 was reported. The alertness of the employees in this case played a huge role in the prevention a greater loss to all the banks involved.

Matthew OUDERKIRK, 27 years old of Brantford was arrested and charged with the following:

Identity Fraud – 7 Counts

Identity Theft – 3 Counts

Fraud Under $5,000 – 2 Counts

Obtain Credit By False Pretences or Fraud – 3 Counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing on April 8, 2015.
