(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Monday March 01, 2010 at approximately 11:30 p.m. Perth County OPP officers stopped a green Mazda van as they were conducting a RIDE spot check at the intersection of Maddison St. and Winstanley St. in Monkton.
While speaking to the driver the officer detected the odour of freshly burned marihuana and an open bottle of beer was observed inside the vehicle. The vehicle was searched by police and a stolen firearm was located. A small amount of marihuana and numerous bottles of liquor were also found inside the vehicle.
The vehicles four occupants were arrested and transported to the Listowel OPP Detachment where they were held until a bail hearing on Tuesday March 02, 2010 in Stratford. At the bail hearing all four arrested persons were released on conditions and are to appear in Listowel court on April 07, 2010 to answer to the charged that were laid.
All 4 occupants of the vehicle have been charged with, Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime, Possession of Break-In Instruments, Possession of Marihuana-under 30 grams.
Charged are:
Matthew NADJIWON (20) of London
Justin GIRARD (19) of London
Anthony NOWELL (29) of the Cape Croker First Nations Territory
Helena RANKIN (37) of London, (in addition she has been charged with one count of Breach of Probation).
