(Central Huron, ON) – Within a one week timeframe, Huron OPP officers have responded to two marine incidents on the Bayfield River. The popular area of travel is Clinton or Varna to the Bayfield River Bridge. Both incidents involved overdue canoeists or kayakers.
Police are asking that people venturing out on the water take some basic precautions. All information indicates that the water is flowing less quickly at this time, so travel is taking longer. As a result we urge people to:
Bring a charged cell phone that is turned on
Bring enough food and water for a longer day
Bring clothing in case a trip turns long and the temperature drops
Wear PFD’s
The OPP encourages people to have fun but to do so responsibly. Safety is paramount.
