(COLLINGWOOD, ON) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a male after a report of a person on an area walking trail in possession of a hatchet.
On the 11th of August 2015 at approximately 12:00pm, officers were advised of a male observed on a walking trail between Poplar Sideroad and Collins Street wielding a hatchet and also throwing it at the complainant. Thankfully the hatchet missed striking the complainant and police began patrols for the male. Shortly thereafter police received further calls of a male with a hatchet observed causing damage to small trees in the area of Fourth Street and Maple Street.
Several officers attended the area as the male attempted to flee from police however officers were able to subdue the male and take him into custody without injury to anyone. As the arrested male was being processed at detachment, it was found that he was also the same male that Huronia West OPP were attempting to locate for a break and enter to private property reported earlier that day in Clearview Township. Officers also found that the male in custody had a bench warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in court.
Charged is 44 year-old Scott EDWARDS of Wasaga Beach, he is facing charges of assault with a weapon, break and enter a dwelling house, mischief under $5000, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, resist peace officer and theft under $5000. He was held for bail court today in Barrie.
