On Friday, January 20 th , 2017 at approximately 12:50 p.m. Owen Sound Police responded to downtown Owen Sound after a man reported that 20 minutes earlier a friend had brandished a knife upon him while uttering a death threat.
The parties were walking along 2 nd Avenue East when the accused is alleged to have pressed a folding knife against the other man’s chest while making a reference to stabbing him. The victim gained refuge a short distance away by ducking into a building.
Within minutes of receiving the report uniform bureau officers located the accused Owen Sound resident and took him into custody without incident.
20-year old Edward Mason ROOTE is held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday, January 23 rd, 2017 at Owen Sound Ontario Court of Justice. He is charged with:
1) Uttering Threats
2) Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
3) Assault with a Weapon
There were no injuries in this isolated incident. The dispute between the two friends is over money.
