(Bancroft, Ontario) – During the evening hours on the 18th day of September 2015, officers with the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) were conducting a R.I.D.E. check program on South Baptiste Lake Road at Loop Road in the Municipality of Highlands East.
Shortly before 9:30 P.M., a vehicle entered this R.I.D.E. program, and officers observed that the driver was not wearing a seat-belt. After speaking with the driver, police became concerned that he had been drinking, and requested that the he place the vehicle in park – however, the driver disobeyed the officers, and fled from the scene.
Police went to pursue the vehicle, only to discover that it had come to a stop a short distance from the R.I.D.E. check, after becoming involved in a collision with a guardrail
The male driver was arrested and brought back to the Bancroft Detachment of the O.P.P., where he provided samples of his breath for the purposes of determining his blood/alcohol level. As a result of these readings being in the “warn” range, his licence was suspended for seven days.
Further, charged with Failing to Wear Seatbelt; Having Care & Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Liquor; and Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer is 68 year old Larry YASINSKI of the Municipality of Highlands East. He was released on a Promise to Appear notice, with a First Appearance date in Bancroft Criminal Court for the 27th of October 2015.
