Man Faces Numerous Charges After Flipping Vehicle Fleeing Police

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) -On January 28, 2017 at approximately 3:54 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed an unlicensed driver, driving a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) southbound, on Armstrong Street in New Liskeard. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop and fled the area.

At approximately 4:08 p.m., police received reports of an SUV on its roof in the ditch on Sales Barn Road, New Liskeard. This vehicle matched the description of the one the OPP had previously attempted to stop. A male was observed fleeing from the vehicle. OPP attended the scene, and the suspect was located in the bush nearby.

Dwayne Nelson, 45, of New Liskeard, was arrested and charged with the following:

Flight from Police, contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 249(1)(a) CC

Driving While Disqualified, contrary to section 259(4) CC

Possession of Break in Instruments, contrary to section 351(1) CC

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5000, contrary to section 354(1) CC

Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x3 counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) CC

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) CDSA

Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

Fail to Stop for Police, contrary to section 216 HTA

Fail to Remain, contrary to section 200 of the HTA

Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop (x2 counts), contrary to section 136(1)(a) HTA

Fail to Notify Change of Address, contrary to section 9(2) HTA

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on January 31, 2017.
