Drunk Driver From Fergus Arrested – Name Released

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 28, 2017 at approximately 11:13 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a check on wellbeing request for a driver that was slumped over the wheel of his motor vehicle on Side Road 6 North near First Line in Centre Wellington Township.

Police located the 2001 Toyota on the side of the road with the engine running and a male sleeping in the driver’s seat. Officers woke up the male and immediately detected the odour of alcohol on his breath and observed physical signs of impairment. Police also seized a container of open alcohol that was located near the driver. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

36-year-old Kevin HOLWERDA of Fergus has been charged with Care of Control Over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on February 14, 2017 to answer to the charge. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
