Man Ends Up In Ditch With Drunk Driving Charge After Checking Mail

(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have charged a 63-year-old from Bluewater with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol after police were notified of a vehicle in the ditch. On Saturday, October 10th, 2015 at approximately 2:17 p.m. Huron OPP officers responded to the intersection of Bluewater Veteran’s Highway and Evelyn Road. Police had received information that a vehicle went off the roadway into the ditch at the entrance to the “Highland 3” subdivision.

Upon arrival officers located a Cadillac CTS backed down into a grass ditch. Upon assisting the male out of his vehicle and safely back onto level ground officers observed signs that the male was impaired by alcohol. The driver told the officers he had simply driven to the mailbox area to pick-up his mail and upon turning around he reversed too far and slid down into the steep ditch.

Officers arrested the driver for Impaired Operation and subsequently transported him to the Exeter OPP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath to the Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his tests registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 63-year-old John FOSTER from Bluewater has been charged with Impaired Operation and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 16, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle will been impounded for seven days.
