Man Charged with Theft and Drug Possession

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a shoplifting complaint at Walmart in Chatham last night.

Just before 9:00 p.m. an employee at Walmart observed the man take a shirt off a rack and put it on overtop the current shirt he was wearing. The man exited the store with a grocery cart full of items making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. Total value of the theft was estimated at $400.

The 49-year-old Chatham man was arrested outside. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine. The man has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
