Man Charged with Driving and Drug Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a traffic stop in Blenheim yesterday afternoon.

Around 2:40 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed a man driving a motor vehicle northbound on Hidden Valley Drive. The officer recognized the man and knew that he was prohibited from driving. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the man was arrested. The man was searched incident to arrest and found to be in possession of marijuana. The officer further learned that the man was also currently bound by conditions not to possess any controlled substances. The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 45 days as per the Vehicle Impoundment Program.

Around 9:30 p.m. a woman contacted police to report her vehicle stolen. Through investigation, police determined that the man had taken the woman’s vehicle without her permission.

The 21-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with driving while prohibited, failing to comply, taking a motor vehicle without consent and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
