MALE CHARGED FOR ASSAULTING POLICE

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Kenora man for assaulting several OPP officers.
On Wednesday July 16, 2014 just before 8:00 am members of the Kenora OPP were on patrol of the downtown area of Kenora. Police observed an intoxicated male and he was arrested under section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act for his own safety. Upon arrest, the male became aggressive with police and more officers were called to assist. The male became assaultive with police and four officers were assaulted. One officer sustained minor injuries.

As a result of this investigation, 24 year old Roderick Land of Kenora has been charged with four counts of Assaulting a Peace Officer contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) and one count of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) CC. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
