(CALEDON, ON)- On August 22nd, 2014 an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling in the Village of Bolton when he observed a male operating a pocket bike without a helmet or lighting on Elwood Drive. The officer attempted to stop the motorized vehicle but observed that the driver continued to evade police at a high rate of speed and driving erratically. Subsequently, the officer stopped his pursuit of the vehicle.
Shortly thereafter, the officer located the pocket bike tipped over in the middle of the roadway on Willow Street. The officer observed the driver pick up the bike and attempt to get it started. When the driver saw the officer, he dropped the bike and ran eastbound on Willow Street. The officer demanded the rider stop and upon speaking with him, immediately detected an odour of alcohol on his breath and the officer observed that he was unsteady on his feet. Subsequently, the male was arrested for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place. A search of the male uncovered a small quantity of drugs, believed to be cocaine.
In conclusion, David LEO, 24, from Caledon was arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule I substance. He is further charged with Fail to Stop for Police under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and Being Intoxicated in a Public Place under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on September 29th, 2014 to answer to the charges.
