(Central Huron, ON) – Huron OPP officers were called to a suspicious fire on 3rd Avenue in Vanastra at approximately 1:30 am on May 19, 2011. The Central Huron Fire Department was on scene of a structure fire at D&D Glass and Mirror. A storage area and several parked vehicles were engulfed in flames. Evidence at the scene led police and fire departments to believe the fire was suspicious.
Based on recent prior incidents involving theft and mischief that were under investigation, officers began patrolling for a suspect. The male party was located in Goderich and after a short attempt to evade police, he was stopped and arrested.
Lucas PRESSEY (20) of Goderich remains in police custody pending a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 19th. He is facing two counts of Arson, two counts of Mischief Over $5,000 and two counts of Mischief Under $5,000. These charges stem from the Vanastra fire as well as two other incidents in Goderich where fuel was stolen and a sign at Tim Horton’s was damaged. The investigations remain ongoing.
