(South Huron, ON) – On May 17, 2011 an elderly Exeter woman received an unprompted call regarding problems with her computer security systems. Believing the caller, the woman was instructed on what to type into her computer in order to access a new security system. When the “servicing†was complete, she provided the caller with her credit card number in order to purchase two years worth of computer security.
There are endless ways in which victims can be swindled. As soon as we identity one method, there seems to be ten new ones coming along.
Basic protection means that we never give out personal information or credit card information to ANYONE over the phone unless we have initiated the contact with a trusted service.
