(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On April 7, 2016, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.
At 9:01 p.m., police observed a vehicle on Roman Avenue. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt. A traffic stop was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, the driver was found to be a suspended driver and the vehicle he was operating had no insurance. The plates on the vehicle were unauthorized. The plates were removed and the vehicle towed.
Jonathon LAVOIE, 57 years age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:
Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway-No Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
Driving While Under Suspension (X2), contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act;
Driver- Fail to Properly Wear Seat Belt, contrary to section 106(2) of the Highway Traffic Act; and
Use Plate not Authorized for Vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 20, 2016.
