LACROIX – Methamphetamine, Trafficking

(HEARST, ON) – On April 15, 2016, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation on 9th Street in the Town of Hearst.

The investigation led to both male occupants being arrested for drug related offences. Police seized Marihuana, Cannabis Resin, Methamphetamine and Amphetamine, all with a combined estimated street value of $2,000 as well as $120 in Canadian currency.

The driver, Casey LACROIX, 20, of Hearst, Ontario was charged with the following offences:

Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marihuana contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis resin, contrary to section 4(1) (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Amphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) (CDSA)

Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)

Drive Without Proper Headlights contrary to section 62(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA)

Fail to Surrender Insurance Card contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)

The passenger was released unconditionally.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst on May 18, 2016.
