(Hawkesbury, ON) – The Hawkesbury OPP is preparing a local plan to support the provincial traffic prevention initiative this Labor Day Weekend. The initiative will ensure efficient deployment of resources to address our unique community needs.
Using an analytical approach, our detachment was able to identify directed patrol strategies in order to put our members in the right places at the right times to target specific public safety concerns.
The primary mission of the Hawkesbury OPP detachment will be to safeguard and promote public safety during the long holiday weekend by ensuring the orderly and safe movement of traffic and the safety of our citizens.
Local officers will be targeting distracted driving but also the following causal factors.
• Aggressive driving
• Impaired driving
• Restraint systems
Directed patrol will be held throughout Prescott County but with enhanced patrols at the following locations:
• County #17 in Champlain Township and Alfred -Plantagenet Township.
• Hwy #417 and
• Town of Hawkesbury.
Inspector Bryan MacKillop, the Hawkesbury OPP Commander, says: “You can make a difference this long holiday weekend. Don’t be a statistic. Keep your calm, look ahead while driving, do not drive under the influence of alcohol and buckle up. By doing this, you will make our roads safer. Road safety is everybody’s business.â€Â
