Killaloe OPP Weekly Release

During the week of the 18 April 2016, to the 24 April 2016, there were 77 calls for service, including the Whitney Detachment.

There were eighteen motor vehicle collisions, twelve were animal related.

There was one domestic dispute call for service during the week of the 18 April 2016, to the 24 April 2016. There was one domestic related incident involving criminal code charges.

Assault

On the 21April 2016 at approximately 5: 08 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Devin Leeworthy and Sgt Dilon Gerundin attended an address in Madawaska Valley Twp. regarding a domestic disturbance. As a result of police investigation a 37 yr. old male has been charged with Assault section 266, and Utter Threats section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was held for a bail hearing, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Break and Enter

On the 18 April 2016 at approximately 1: 33 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Barry Nisbet attended a residence on North Street in Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Twp. regarding a break and enter to a shed. Stolen was a Husqvarna chainsaw. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Killaloe OPP or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Police Investigate Moose Collisions

Members of the Killaloe OPP were kept busy investigating three separate moose collisions over the past week. On the 18 April 2016 at approximately 9:04 a.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Mike Recoskie received a report of a single vehicle collision involving a car and a moose on Comberemere Road in Madawaska Valley Twp. The vehicle sustained minor damages and the moose ran off after being struck. There were no injuries reported.

On the 21 April 2016 at approximately 8: 33 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Mike Recoskie received a second report of a single vehicle collision involving a car and a moose on Hwy # 28, in Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Twp. The male driver from Seguin Twp. sustained non –life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. The vehicle was towed.

On the 24 April 2016 at approximately 9: 11 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Kyle Fabian received a report of a single vehicle collision involving a car and moose on #60 Hwy in Algonquin Park. The driver from Laurentian Valley Twp. escaped without injuries. The vehicle sustained damage.

Police would like to remind drivers to be aware and cautious of wildlife especially deer and moose while travelling on the highways. Collisions with moose, the largest members of the deer family can reach upwards of 1500 pounds and can be particularly dangerous especially for those travelling in small vehicles. To minimize the chance of a car moose collision, always drive the speed limit and give yourself as much time as possible to react. Pay attention to signs that indicate moose and deer crossings, and be aware of your surroundings.
