(CALEDON, ON) – On this date at 2:50 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), EMS and Caledon Fire were called to the Credit River area in Terra Cotta after receiving a complaint that two empty kayaks were located stuck in ice in the middle of the Credit River.
The body of a female kayaker was recovered some time later and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
OPP Aviation Services, Emergency Response Team members, K-9 and patrol officers are currently searching for the second kayaker, a male.
Additional resources including Underwater Search and Recovery Unit will be attending in the morning.
